STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Our District spends considerable financial and personnel resources collecting data to accommodate burdensome unfunded mandates with respect to PARCC and teacher evaluation. The Raising expectations team will work tirelessly with our Admin to make sure that our students receive the maximum benefit from our efforts to better prepare them for their choices in the future.

GROWING PAINS

Bloomfield is a wonderful place to live and work as evidenced by the increased local development. All healthy communities have growth spurts just like our students do. Our BOE must continue to build and foster successful relationships with partners such as: Bloomfield College, Montclair State and our Town Council.

COMMITMENT TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The backbone of any successful school district is the quality of its employees. With new unfunded mandates and regulations, a yearly occurrence, our BOE must stay the course on professional development while transitioning to an in-house approach that will improve efficiency in the long run.

REFORM OF REGISTRATION

Highly effective school Districts register all students on an annual basis. Taxpayers deserve to know that a quality education provided by the hard working people from Bloomfield should ONLY be offered to students who reside in our community.

BUILDING CAPACITY

The Bloomfield BOE has created new administrative positions to provide exceptional service to our students, parents and teachers. Measurable goals must be monitored by the BOE to ensure that all stakeholders benefit from the generosity of our community.

RESTORE FOREIGN
LANGUAGE
PROGRAM K-12

The 2% Cap restrictions of the past forced many districts around the state to forgo foreign language programs. Bloomfield has had such a challenge to overcome. We have restored our Child Study Teams and cut supervisory ranks: NOW it is time to fund and support the return of our language programs!!

PRESERVE SUSTAINABILITY

The Raising Expectations Team 2016 believes that all students have the ability to grow into lifelong learners. Board Members must be lifelong learners as well and not repeat past mistakes. As a result, the RET 2016 will not be in favor of outsourcing, huge budget shortfalls forced the Board to outsource our Child Study Teams, the Board tried it and then brought them back. The RET 2016 members have what it takes to preserve sustainability and not outsource.

AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENTS

The Raising Expectations Team 2016 members are a diverse group of citizens who have gotten together to share ideas and opinions on how to better serve our public school system. The RET 2016 fully supports the efforts the grassroots movement on reforming how students are assessed. The Bloomfield Board of Education was the first district in New Jersey to pass an opt out option for our parents. It has since been replicated in many other Districts in the state. We plan to push on further and lead toward an authentic assessment that our students deserve!!

OPPOSITION TO CHARTER SCHOOLS

The Raising Expectations Team 2016 is opposed to charter schools in Bloomfield.
